Tweed’s biggest Spring Fish since the 1920’s

JN260413Ian Bailey has caught the largest spring fish on Tweed so far this year at 34lb on the famous Tweed beat, Junction. The 34lb spring salmon was caught on a Flying C and took 10 minutes to land, Mr Bailey initially thought the fish to be about 25lb. Unfortunately the fish had taken the hook deep and was bleeding and after 15 minutes of trying to revive the fish, the boatman had to reluctantly admit defeat. Something no-one wanted hear, especially the boatman, as this fine cock fish when measured was 104cm and weighed in at 34lb and is the first Spring fish in 3 years that the Junction boatmen have had to kill.

Bill Quarry who is currently writing a book on the subject, believes Mr Bailey’s salmon to be the biggest spring fish since the 1920’s from Tweed. Mr Bailey, whose party were fishing Junction and Carham, had 14 fish for the week and it included a first fish for Mrs Paterson.  Congratulations to all concerned.
