FishPal’s Tom Carter and Anne Woodcock joined Mick Charlton on Middle Pavilion beat to introduce local business’s within the Scottish Borders to Salmon Fishing.
Twenty local tourism business’s spent the day exploring the Scottish Borders to help showcase the unique natural and cultural heritage sites of the borders. The day included a private guided tour of Abbottsford House, Scott’s View, Smailholm Tower, Kelso Abbey and finished off with an introduction to salmon fishing at Middle Pavilion.
The afternoon session started with an introduction to the River Tweed and fishing, explaining the tourism importance to the region from anglers visiting from the UK & internationally. This also included a section on what customers are looking for from accommodation providers e.g. rod storage, drying rooms, flexible breakfast times for early starts, packed lunches, local amenities nearby etc.
Anne & Mick led the equipment, flies and casting session – split into two groups they learned how to assemble a 14ft rod and two casts overhead and roll cast. Everyone had the chance to cast the rod and thoroughly enjoyed their time. We have since been contacted by members of the group for a days introduction to salmon fishing.
